Club Tennis Matches & Teams

The Bourne Club enters junior and adult teams into various LTA accredited inter-club leagues and knockout competitions. Details of these can be found below with further information from the Office.

Each year the Bourne Club endeavours to enter as many age group competitions as possible.

Junior teams are run by parent captains with help from Alex Fricker, Head Coach, on team selection.  Please click here to view the junior competition programme in Surrey, for both team and individual events.

Junior players of any age interested in playing in inter-club league matches or other junior competitions should contact the Office.

AEGON Team Tennis Summer Competition

We enter teams from 10U – 16U in the AEGON Competitions. Details of these events can be found on this website.  For further information, rules, player eligibility and match results, please refer to the Surrey LTA website by clicking here.

Aldershot & District League

This is a local league, affiliated to Hampshire LTA and Surrey LTA for juniors of all age groups for both summer and winter league competitions.  Please click here to download the junior league information.  Junior league matches are played at the weekend.

Surrey Postal Competition

The Club encourages entry into this singles knockout competition for juniors, which takes place each summer and winter season, and Bourne Club juniors have reached the finals on several occasions.

You pay to enter and are informed who your 1st round opponent is and the play-by date.  Then it is up to you to arrange the match – the ‘home’ player books the court, supplies the balls and the winner phones in the result.  You then wait for your next match details to be posted to you.  (If you lose, you don’t get to play again.).

All Surrey Postal players must have British Tennis membership and an LTA rating (click here to join), as all matches count for ratings.  Later rounds may count for ranking points and the finals are usually held at the National Tennis Centre, Roehampton.

‘Road to Wimbledon’ Competition

The club encourages entry into this national competition for U14 juniors.  Each club runs its own ‘Road to Wimbledon’ tournament and results are published on the LTA website.  Winners progress to play in their county event and county winners play in the national finals, held on the grass courts of the All England Club, Wimbledon.

The Bourne enters Mens Doubles, Ladies Doubles and Mixed Doubles leagues into LTA accredited club leagues and knockout competitions.

The tennis committee has set out basic rules governing team selection and club matches.

  1. Well in advance of each summer or winter playing season the delegated member of the tennis committee responsible for adult tennis, teams & matches will put an entry sheet on the club matches notice board inviting members interested in playing for teams to enter their names to play in a team selection open day.  The open day will be attended by the committee’s delegate and by an independent arbiter, such as Alex Fricker, Head Coach, to decide on team selection for each team squad.  Generally a squad of 6 would be chosen for a team of 4.
  2. Once each team squad is chosen, captains for each team are nominated, either by selection or volunteer.
  3. The team squad lists are posted on the match notice board along with a list of reserves from which players can be chosen for matches as replacements.
  4. The delegated committee member, acting as fixtures secretary, attends the appropriate league fixtures meetings and organises fixed dates for home and away fixtures with opposing clubs.
  5. Throughout the season each captain is responsible for selecting their team for each match, posting team player names on the notice board in advance of the match, calling round to find replacements for any withdrawals, ensuring the team turns up at the right venue on time, filling out match result cards and posting to the league organisers, and ensuring the results are posted on the notice board.
  6. If a match is postponed or unplayable due to weather and needs to be re-arranged, captains should notify the club office as soon as possible, so that an alternative date can be arranged with the opposition fixtures secretary.  Each captain has the authority and necessary access to independently cancel tennis courts for club matches that are no longer required, or to add a court during a match, should the need arise.
