BOURNE CLUB TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS

A most important date to put in your diary is the annual club championships.  This is run as a ‘Wimbledon’ style event over a 2-week period on June each year.

The different competitions are –

Men’s Singles
Ladies Singles
Men’s Doubles
Ladies Doubles
Mixed Doubles
Mixed Vets Doubles
Mixed Plate Doubles

Any players losing in the first round may enter the Mixed Plate Doubles where their mixed partner is drawn by lot.

The championship fortnight is preceded by an exhibition event that includes some of Britain’s top upcoming players.  Held on a Friday evening it’s a great social event with a barbeque and a Pimm’s & Champagne tent!

The championships then get underway with all the courts pre-booked for tournament matches after 6pm in the evening.  Players can of course arrange to play earlier in the day.  The finals are normally umpired by LTA Officials.

The winners and runners-up are presented with trophies and prizes, most of which are funded by our very kind sponsors, and winners’ names are added to the array of Honour Boards displayed in the Clubhouse.

Charity Tournaments

Every year the club endeavours to hold a special charity tournament for the benefit of a locally based charity.  In 2009 it was for ‘Disability Challengers’ and the event was run over a 24-hour continuous period (yes, through the night on the indoor court!) with members bidding auction style for the chance to play the coaches in doubles.
